Development Geologist










After a new discovery has been made and appraisal commences, there is a need to maintain a robust evaluation of the associated resources and provide a seamless transition of the knowledge of the asset to the development organization within the company. To accomplish this objective, the exploration team will maintain an up to date geological/geophysical model that reflects the range of possible resource estimates and documents the appraisal and development uncertainties. Ahead of preparation of a Plan of Development and during the initial stages of that effort, the team will work closely with the development organization to ensure all pertinent knowledge and data are provided for the preparation of development scale static and dynamic models.



Essential Job Duties


  • The successful candidate will have a strong background in geoscience and possess a demonstrated track record of achieving business results in a multi-disciplinary team environment. 
  • Develop and maintain the complete subsurface database (e.g. core, well logs, tops, biostrat, resource volumes)
  • Monitor active exploration wells
  • Develop geologic models
  • Construction and maintenance of static reservoir models
  • Calculation of pre-drill prospect resources estimates.
  • Maintain an inventory of prospects volumes





  • A minimum of ten years of industry experience and previous experience in static modeling and resource estimation. 
  • Foster strong working relationships with other Exploration and Development Team members.
  • Superior Petrel skills are required.
  • Work in a fast-paced well planning program, coordinating with members of the drilling team, operations geologist and the team geophysicist and reservoir engineer. 
  • Strong collaboration and listening skills. 
  • Operated development experience is required.
  • Willingness to provide and receive feedback in the spirit of improvement. 
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills with demonstrated direct past involvement with partner work groups and Technical Committee Meetings.
  • Experience with geological work processes.  Ability to integrate seismic, well data and depositional models to characterize reservoirs (mapping and modeling), identify and evaluate drilling opportunities.  Familiarity with reservoir engineering work processes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the latest coring, pressure acquisition and LWD techniques is essential.
  • Experience in reservoir management activities including volumetric, risk and resource assessment.
